Marilyn Pattison has been an Occupational Therapist for 32 years and has predicated her extensive experience and knowledge in providing assistance and support to both individuals and the wider community on the following principles:
- Self sufficiency
- Safety
- Respect
- Enablement
- Sharing
Marilyn’s unique experience as both a successful OT practitioner and an experienced business manager allows her to better identify both the needs of the client and the organisation or community of this person. This results in enabling the client to live a meaningful life.
This approach has ensured that Marilyn has become involved in various companies to help injured workers return to work with a minimum of disruption, develop injury prevention programmes (minimising the risk to workers in the first place) and helping people with chronic injuries to live a more meaningful life, whilst helping to minimise the longer term burden/cost to society.
This success has lead Marilyn to employ additional Occupational Therapists who want to use their skills to the benefit of the community through the enablement of the individual within the community – either directly or through an employer.
The application of the above principles has also seen Marilyn share her knowledge and skills both around Australia through her involvement in the various Australian Occupational Therapist associations and also worldwide as the Executive Director of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
Marilyn works with the WFOT executive management team to help develop the profession in various emerging countries, developing disaster response packages that support the survivors in the longer term (after the early response organisations have moved on) and providing business support and training to OT organisations to help ensure their long term viability.
Among her achievements Marilyn counts being a recipient of the OT Australia National Award, a finalist in the Telstra Business woman of the Year and most recently she has been honoured with the Sylvia Docker Award from OT Australia – the highest award for an Occupational Therapist’s contribution to the profession in Australia. Marilyn has also received numerous invitations to present as a Key Note speaker and Workshop facilitator (in both business management & clinical subjects) from mature & emerging OT organisations around the world.
